Role Summary
  • This role will report to the Manager, Financial Controls. The Financial Controls team is responsible for developing and maintaining effective financial controls through monthly financial reconciliations and monitoring processes. This is a new role that has been created to support the evolving mandates of Group Benefits Finance teams, and will be instrumental in their development and success.
  • As a member of the Group Benefits Finance team in Montreal, Financial Analyst will work to improve account reconciliation processes and financial controls, develop and maintain internal reports and Microsoft Office based applications.
  • Success in this role is measured based upon overall ability to effectively represent the interests and mandate of the organization, support day-to-day operations, complete business initiatives and deliver results.
Main Accountabilities
  • Reviews reconciliations prepared by Sr. Accounting Specialists to ensure they are accurate and meet tight company Account Reconciliation standards and Sarbane-Oxley controls;
  • Prepares reconciliations, identifies and resolves differences;
  • Prepares monthly Account Reconciliation reporting;
  • Makes recommendation to management to influence decisions and support policy/process development;
  • Identifies appropriate control gaps and works with management and staff in other departments to resolve;
  • Performs and/or reviews aging of Balance Sheet accounts to ensure payables/receivables are effectively managed and controlled;
  • Reconcile accounts from Oracle (current system) to SAP (new system)
  • Provides training and technical support to Senior Accounting Specialists and other departments;
  • Coordinates and/or supports internal and external audits;
  • Manages and/or participates in small projects and provide subject matter expertise.
  • Identify and implement process enhancements to increase team efficiencies and internal controls by using appropriate applications.
  • Validate, improve and document business processes.

Must haves: 
  • Minimum 5 years of accounting/ financial analyst experience with an understanding of controls environment
  • Accounting designation or actively working towards accounting designation (CMA, CGA, CA)
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Reporting tools (Oracle General Ledger, Oracle Discoverer/Financial Analyzer, SAP)
Nice to haves:
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written, in English and French.
  • Knowledge of Group products, services and systems (Group CDB accounting systems, Group administration and claim systems).
  • Insurance, Reinsurance, Group Benefits experiences are nice to have
  • B. Comm. in Accounting or Finance or equivalent;
