Our valued Public Sector client is in need of Senior Application Architect (AWS and Azure) to to assist in performing in-depth analysis and developing artifacts for an Application Modernization /Workload Migration project within the Public Sector.

As part of the Government of Canada (GC) Application Modernization/Workload Migration (AppMod/WLM) program, the client has a requirement to migrate all of its server-based application assets from their current legacy data centres to one of Shared Services Canada’s (SSC) end-state data centres (EDCs) or to a Public Cloud. With the planned GC Cloud Adoption Strategy, the Government of Canada intends to leverage the cloud service-delivery model and the agility it can offer. Over the course of the coming year the client will be exploring strategies in order to migrate services and workloads over to cloud, to EDCs or a hybrid combination of the two. As part of  the implementation of the GC “Cloud Smart” journey, they will need to architect, design, and build secure and robust cloud-based platforms and explore emerging technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT).

Responsibilities:

• Assessment of existing legacy applications, identifying and assessing options (based on the 6Rs – rehost, replatform, refactor, replace/repurchase, retire, retain) for the eventual deployment of workloads towards cloud, end-state data centres or using a hybrid combination;
• Review of current state legacy application architectures and determining the future state solution;
• Planning for the migration of applications and databases (DBs) from on-premises to cloud using various cloud native and third-party assessment and migration tools;
• Planning for the migration of applications and DBs from on-premise to on-premise (prem to prem) from legacy datacenter to end-state datacenter (EDC);
• Develop Conceptual, Logical and Physical implementation ready technical Application architectures, frameworks, and strategies to meet the business and application requirements including making applicable recommendations for Cloud Computing (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS) and the reuse of emergent technologies to meet the Business Functional and Technical requirements;
• Recommend modern application architectures involving: containerization, PaaS, cloud native solutions, etc.
• Research and analyze industry trends to ensure recommended solutions fit with the Government of Canada and Industry direction for technology.
• Recommend and select technical approaches to address challenging development integration and interoperability problems with application architectures hosted within the public or hybrid cloud including on Premise environments;
• Create the conceptual, logical and physical architecture and designs for application architectures and their interoperability when hosted in a public or hybrid cloud environment (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS)

We are looking for someone with the following, but not limited to, experience:

Must Haves:

• Experience working with AWS and Azure
• Experience developing a cost analysis of a migration to cloud
• Experience reviewing and making recommendations on current and future application architecture
• Experience migration applications and databases from on-prem to cloud

Nice to haves:

• Experience migrating Oracle - Cloud
• Experience working on a large GoC application modernization or workload migration project
