Our healthcare client is seeking a Sr. Data Engineer to manage the day-to-day operations of all company databases, both on-premises and in cloud infrastructure. 

For a permanent position in Montreal

  • The Database Engineer will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of all company databases, both on-premises and in cloud infrastructure. They will also be responsible to build new databases for clinical applications and will work closely with the AI (artificial intelligence) team to run data analysis, build AI Algorithms, and machine learning systems for the advancement of healthcare services.
  • Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture.
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL, AWS, Azure, GCP, Oracle and other ‘big data’ technologies.
  • Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer/patient acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics.
  • Work with stakeholders including the Executive, IT, Advanced Tech, EMR, AI, and Operations teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.
  • Keep our data separated and secure across provincial boundaries through multiple data centers, Private and Public Cloud infrastructure regions.
  • Create data tools to de-identify or anonymize data.
  • Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems.
  • Document each newly developed solution to assist in certification and on-going support.
  • Participate in innovative research in machine learning applications in a healthcare setting.
  • Work with large, complex data sets. Solve difficult, non-routine analysis problems, applying advanced machine learning methods, as needed.
  • Specify requirements and protocols for data collection and analysis.
  • Research new data analysis methods and best practices.
  • Supervise Research Assistants, as needed. 
  • Manage assigned projects in a priority sequence to ensure deliverables are met on time and on budget.

Must have skills:
  • 5+ or more years of experience as a Data Engineer
  • Experience building and optimizing big data data pipelines, architectures, and data sets and working with big data tools.
  • Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, C++, Scala, etc.
  • Experience in computer vision, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or data mining.
  • Awareness of applicable data privacy practices and laws. (GDPR, HIA, PIPEDA, PHIPA, PIPA,PCI)
Nice to have skills:
  • Experience with the Quebec healthcare laws is an asset.
